This privacy policy explains how St Ives Town Council collects and uses personal information through the Huer's Hut website. ("huershut.stivestowncouncil-cornwall.gov.uk").

Who we are

St Ives Town Council is the data controller for personal information collected through this website.

For general information about how the Council handles personal data across all of its services, see the main St Ives Town Council Privacy Policy. This page covers only what this Huer’s Hut website itself collects.

What information we collect

This website is a heritage project microsite. The only place it collects personal information is the “Get Involved” page, where visitors can submit a memory or story about the Huer’s Hut. If you use that form, we may collect:

  • your name
  • your email address
  • the memory, story or comment you submit
  • a photograph, if you choose to upload one
  • whether you’d like to be kept updated with future news about the project (an optional checkbox)

We don’t use cookies to track you for advertising purposes. If this website uses cookies for essential site functions or (once the site is live) anonymised analytics to understand how the site is used, you’ll be shown a cookie/privacy notice when you first visit, explaining what’s used and letting you choose.

Why we collect it, and our legal basis

We collect this information because you’ve chosen to give it to us, in order to:

  • consider your memory or story for inclusion in the Huer’s Hut project and its published archive of local memories
  • get back in touch with you about your submission, where needed
send you project updates, only if you’ve asked to receive them

Our legal basis for this is your consent, given by submitting the form. You can withdraw that consent at any time by contacting us using the details above.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell or share your information with third parties for marketing purposes. Submitted memories, stories and photographs may be published on this website or used in the Huer’s Hut project’s other materials, where you’ve agreed to that as part of your submission.

How long we keep it

We’ll keep the information you submit for as long as it’s needed to run the Huer’s Hut project and maintain its archive of memories, in line with the Council’s standard records retention rules. If you ask us to remove your submission or delete your details, we will, unless we have a legal reason to keep them.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you
  • ask us to correct anything that’s inaccurate
  • ask us to delete your information
  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it
  • ask for a copy of your information in a portable format
  • withdraw consent at any time

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at enquiries@stives-tc.gov.uk. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example once Google Analytics or a cookie notice is added to the site. Any changes will be posted on this page.
